Bernhard König on Facebook

This is the personal web site of Bernhard König, a software developer located in Vienna, Austria.

Currently, I am employed at Orange Austria. The main focus of my work is to develop the in-house CRM software.

Besides my day job, I also work on some other software development projects. This blog and the entire site are mainly dedicated to this part of my life. I'd like to present and share my projects as well as my earned knowledge here, just like possibly every other developer blog out there does.

You can also follow me on Twitter and a Facebook profile is also out there. For business related contacts, I also maintain a Xing profile.

Just like the subtitle of my blog implies, I really enjoy do develop on the .NET platform. I develop desktop clients as well as web or mobile clients, backend/infrastructure/web services, database systems ... just everything I am able to get my hands on. My (not exhaustive) list of skills include:

  • Programming languages: C#, VB.NET, "Classic" VB, VBScript, JavaScript
  • SOA Technologies: Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), .NET Remoting, Web Services
  • Desktop & Web UI Technologies: ASP.NET, Silverlight, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), (X)HTML & CSS, Windows Forms
  • Databases & Servers: Microsoft SQL Server (including Integration and Reporting Services), Windows Server, Internet Information Server, Team Foundation Server, Sharepoint
  • CMS: I prefer Umbraco for CMS tasks, but I also worked with Sitefinity, Kentico and DotNetNuke
  • Mobile Development: Windows Mobile development with .NET and of course Windows Phone 7 development
  • Other: All the standard stuff like XML, XSLT, REST, SOAP, RSS, Atom, some Unix and Linux skills, some protocol knowledge (POP3/IMAP/SMTP, FTP, ...) and everything else you need to survive in development land today.

If you wonder why my website is completely written in English while I'm working and living in the German-speaking part of this world - well, I think that everything but English is a barrier and border for most people. And at least the Internet is all about no borders and no barriers. So - at least now you know I'm not an English native speaker and I ask you to kindly excuse if my English is sometimes a fail.

That said, I plan to at least partly publish this website also in German. That's because bpk.cc offers also some services (like E-Mail hosting) to a bunch of people out there where I'm aware that some of them cannot speak or read English good enough to follow E-Mail setting instructions, for example. Also, this is a good way to try out Umbracos multilanguage capabilities.

So I think you know everything now that might be of interest to you ... and I won't start now with a list of my hobbies or favourite bands ... or any other of that boring stuff noone really cares.

Instead, I'd like to thank you for visiting my blog and website, and finish with an inevitable disclaimer:

While it's rather unlikely that I'm going to talk about topics related to my day job, I think it's anyhow important to state that any views expressed here are my own and do not express those of my employer.
